CFAC
Consumer & Family Advisory Committee (CFAC)
What is CFAC?
The Consumer & Family Advisory Committee (CFAC) is an advisory group made up of
100% consumers and/or family members who give input about mental health,
developmental disability, and substance abuse services to the Area Board of
Directors of the Albemarle Mental Health Center through Center Staff.
History of CFAC
In 2001, the General Assembly of North Carolina passed a new bill into law that
stated the Mental Health, Developmental Disability, and Substance Abuse System
would be reformed. This new law created systems that gave consumers, family
members, and others a voice to make a difference in the provision of mental
health, developmental disabilities, or substance abuse services that would
better meet their needs as a consumer and for the community as a whole.
What is the Purpose of CFAC?
The Consumer & Family Advisory Committee (CFAC) of the Albemarle Mental Health
Center provides consumers and/or family members an opportunity for meaningful
involvement in the planning and ongoing monitoring of the public mental health,
developmental disabilities, and substance abuse system.
CFAC Membership
The CFAC membership is made up of 100% consumers and family membership; with
equal representation of all disability groups (mental health, developmental
disabilities and substance abuse) including a man, woman, and
representation of the race and ethnicity of the community.
CFAC Meeting Schedule
CFAC meets on the second Wednesday for the months of January, March, May, July,
September, and November at 5:30 p.m. at the Albemarle Mental Health Center
located at 1411 Parkview Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
